Lyceum is chosen as recipient of Monterey County Gives program.

See this week’s Monterey County Weekly (November 17th) to see us featured. While there, consider making a year end donation. The MC Gives program awards matching funds to organizations with a solid response from the community. If you value what we have been doing with Mock Trial, History Day, Spelling Bee and the Model United Nations programs, or if you or your child have benefited from the 51 years of enrichment classes we have offered, please support us. Connect with Facebook and Twitter to show your enthusiasm.

New Board of Directors Elected in October

The Lyceum Board of Directors has seated nine new board members, bringing our Board to thirteen leaders wanting to see our programs grow and improve in the coming years. We’ve formed three major committees to address curriculum, overall organization and fund raising.

Current classes are enriching and motivating our youth

Can you imagine separating DNA from mung beans in the 6th grade? Jeanne Fletcher’s “You’re the Chemist” class is filled with future scientists learning by doing. Monterey County Young Journalists (MOCOYOJO) class has begun under the experienced leadership of Peter Funt,  local syndicated columnist. The high school students are learning the ropes first hand at the Monterey County Herald, KSBW, and KXRA venues. They will complete their class by reporting on our Mock Trial event.  Middle schoolers have begun “X-Board Games”, taught by Lyceum alumnus and current Lyceum Board

You're the Chemist! With Instructor Jeanne Fletcher.

Member, Greg Pool. These are no ordinary board games, but those that will encourage critical, higher order thinking skills. Our Robot Computer Programming class is geared up and running at the East Salinas Family Center. Jerry Gleason, computing pioneer,  is leading this effort. We are so fortunate to have such a highly capable volunteer to teach this class. Watch our website for a profile of Jerry. Dante Rondo’s Artist’s Workshop is filled with aspiring painters, using many media to produce creative works under the eye of an expert. Dante has been teaching at the Lyceum for over twenty years. Our Winter class line up is under construction. Watch our website for some exciting new classes starting in February. Digital Story Telling, Film Making 101, and Walking Geology are just some teasers.
