History Day Judges Needed

This video gives a brief overview of the History Day judging process.  Further training is provided by attending one of our training seminars.

Evaluating History Day projects is interesting and very rewarding - and it really helps young people develop their skills and abilities.

History Day judges review entries in their preferred category (when possible), give students feedback and select which projects advance from the regional to the state and national events. The time commitment can be as little as one four-hour period or the whole day; you can even judge papers, websites, and documentaries in advance at home.  And we provide breakfast and lunch to all our Monterey County History Day Judges!

Why should I judge History Day?

  • Community involvement.
  • Volunteer opportunity.
  • Support the youth of Monterey County.
  • And because it is a fantastic and fun way to spend your time, connect with great kids, and learn about history!

Requirements:  Must be 18 years of age or older.  A background check may be required.

**No special knowledge of History is required, but we are looking for educators or people experienced working with Middle and High School students.

Judges' Orientation  (you must be registered to attend)

We offer two options for judges training.

In person training on Wednesday, Feb 28, 2018, 5:30-7:30pm in Monterey
or an Online Video training (at your convenience).

In the interest of fairness for all student participants of Monterey County History Day, a training is required for all NEW judges.  Appetizers and beverages will be served at the in person orientation.
