The Monterey County Mock Trial program is part of a statewide competition
that involves over 8,000 student participants and several thousand
volunteers from California's bar and bench associations each year. Currently
in its eighth year, the Monterey County Mock Trial program is coordinated by
the Lyceum of Monterey County. The winning team represents Monterey County
at the California State Finals in March. In May, the winner of the state
competition represents California at the annual National High School Mock
Trial Competition, involving teams from 54 states and territories. The Mock
Trial program is most essentially a mentor program. By pairing students with
mentors from the legal community, students gain an understanding of the
legal system and increase their awareness of the career opportunities
available in the professional workplace. One-on-one interactions with
attorney coaches help students make the connection between the requirements
of school and the workplace, bringing relevance to their studies and
increasing academic motivation. Students who participate in Mock Trial gain
self-confidence and aspire to new goals for a professional future. Thank you
Granite Construction for funding a portion of Mock Trial this year!
