Los Arboles Middle School Sisters Win at County History Day
Project entitled: Peace, Love, and War
The Lyceum of Monterey County and MCOE co-coordinated Monterey County History Day 2008, funded by AT&T Pebble Beach Charities, The Gatekeepers, and local donors. The event was held on March 7th, 8th and 9th at Los Arboles Middle School in Marina. "Over 300 students participated this year creating projects based on the theme Conflict and Compromise" stated Juliette Calandra-Ferguson, Executive Director of The Lyceum of Monterey County.
"Over forty judges viewed all websites, documentaries, exhibits, performances, and papers and up to two winners were selected in each category to represent Monterey County at the state competition this April", said Jennifer Vendela, new Program Director at The Lyceum of Monterey County. " In addition, judges selected over 80 recipients of special awards sponsored by local donors" stated Vendela.
Students from the following schools are eligible to move forward to the state finals held in Sacramento next month: Los Arboles Middle School, Carmel High School, All Saints Day School, R.L. Stevenson Upper and Lower Schools, Buena Vista, Spreckels Elementary and International School of Monterey.
COUNTY WINNERS, GRADES 9-12:
Sabrina Russo and Michaela Caul - both from Carmel High School, won the Senior Individual Exhibit awards. Tyler Greenway & Cameron Little and Jillian Graves, Kyle Strutner, & Annalee Heller, both groups from CHS, won the Senior Group Exhibit awards. Jake Odello and George Herlein, both from CHS, won the Senior Individual Documentary award. Cameron Hearne & Shannon Welch and Ryan Ehlke, Yancey Cabiera, & Sean Marden won the Senior Group Documentary awards. Caitlin Arnt-Copenhauer, Caronne Baer, Amelia Villareal, & Amanda Womack from CHS won the Senior Group Documentary awards. Max MacKinnon from Stevenson School won the Senior Individual Documentary.
COUNTY WINNERS, GRADES 6-8:
Anna Wilcoxon and Charlotte Anderle, from All St.'s Day School, each won the Jr. Individual Exhibit Category. Alyssa Ignacio & Marissa Ignacio from Los Arboles Middle School and Anthony Lewis Jr., Jimmy Tran, Brandon Carius, Dante Gyant & Carl Osorio, also from Los Arboles won the Junior Group Exhibit categories. Trey Coppinger from ASDS and Casey Anton from Los Arboles won the Junior Individual Documentary Category. Peter Krasznekewicz from ASDS and Collin Vierra from Stevenson Middle School won the Junior individual Website category. Madeline Clark from ASDS won the Junior Historical Paper Category.
Jennifer McDonnal from Buena Vista won the Junior Individual Performance category. Kelly Yancey, Molly Krost, Da Hyun Song & Ethan Peterson from Los Arboles won the Junior Group Performance category.
COUNTY WINNERS, GRADES 4-5:
Kapil Sinha of Spreckels Elementary won the Youth Individual Poster category. Jannell Mendoza, Elizabeth Perkins, Gina Sakoda, & Cloe Estes and Joseph Gordis, Joshua Cunanon, Cameron Mann, & Parker Smith, both groups from ISM won in the Youth Group Poster Category.
