Monterey County Student wins State History Day - on to Nationals in Maryland this June!
After winning the Monterey County History Day competition sponsored by The Lyceum of Monterey County and Monterey County Office of Education on March 11th, 2007, local student Allegra Krasznekewicz went on to win the California State History Day competition. The state competition took place in Long Beach from April 26th-29th. Allegra competed the Senior Historical Paper division with her paper entitled, “William Shakespeare and the Authorship Controversy.” This is only the second time in 17 years of Monterey County’s participation in History Day that a student from Monterey County has won the State History Day Competition. Allegra will compete in the National History Day Competition in Maryland during the month of June.
Allegra is a resident of Carmel and a sophomore at Santa Catalina High School in Monterey. Allegra also won the Monterey County History Day competition as a 7th grader from All Saints’ Day School and attended the state finals. She is a two-time winner of the Monterey County Poetry Contest and has played the violin with the Monterey County Youth Orchestra since she was 8 years old. This summer, Allegra plans to travel for 3 weeks in France, then participate in an intensive five week French immersion program at a university in Paris.
The Lyceum of Monterey County and the Monterey County Office of Education co-sponsor Monterey County’s annual History Day Competition. Pebble Beach AT&T Charities is the key financial contributor, in addition to local individuals and businesses. The Lyceum's mission is to inspire a life-long love of learning. We accomplish this by offering enrichment classes that aim to stimulate individual creativity, intellectual promise and academic motivation in children. The Lyceum of Monterey County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. For more information, please visit our website at www.lyceum.org, or call 831-372-6098, or email general@Lyceum.org.
